Sherry Lynn Acklin

Sherry Lynn Acklin, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family. She was born on June 27, 1948, in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Norman and LaDara Combs. Sherry grew up with a strong sense of community and kindness that she carried throughout her life.

A proud graduate of Cushing High School, Class of 1966, Sherry pursued her passion for beauty and creativity by attending cosmetology school. She enjoyed a fulfilling career as a hairdresser, bringing joy and confidence to those she served. Sherry married her high school sweetheart, Phil Jones in 1970. They enjoyed nine years together before his passing in 1979. After the loss of Phil, Sherry’s zest for life would be found again, when she met Bill Acklin. On September 7, 1985, she married Bill Acklin. Together they built a life filled with warmth and family until his passing on June 27, 2021.

Sherry was a member of the First Christian Church and found joy in simple pleasures— gardening, garage sales, crossword puzzles, Halloween parties with her cousin, Etha Tinnie, and watching her favorite programs on the Hallmark Channel. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons: Shawn Jones and wife Laura, Mark Acklin and wife Judy, and Justin Acklin and wife Kendall; her brothers: Larry Combs and wife Judy, and Mike Combs; nine grandchildren: Phillip Jones, Katy Jones, Jillian Tippit, Madison Acklin, Haden Acklin, Drake Acklin, Canon Acklin, Kynlee Acklin, and Briggs Acklin; and three great-grandchildren: Lynleigh Tippit, Charleigh Tippit, and Hazel Thurman.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and LaDara Combs; husband, Phil Jones, second husband, Bill Acklin; her sister, Norma Walters; and her brother, Don Combs.
