Douglas Jay Thompson, born December 13, 1964, in Verdun, France, to Jack Almond and Leta Bess Thompson, departed this life on June 16, 2026, at the age of 61.
Douglas grew up with a strong sense of purpose and service. He graduated from Agra High School and went on to earn his Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and his Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science. Douglas will be remembered for his intelligence and ability to soak up knowledge and his incredibly wide vocabulary. He dedicated many years to the City of Cushing, working as the animal control officer, a police officer, and the Waste Water Treatment Plant, where he was known for his reliability, work ethic, and commitment to doing things the right way. A proud American, Douglas humbly served his country with honor for 25 years. He served in the United States Navy for almost 5 years and in the United States Army for 20 years His military service was one of the greatest callings of his life, and he was deeply humbled to receive the Combat Medic Award, a recognition that reflected his courage, compassion, and willingness to run toward those in need. Douglas was a music enthusiast and loved a wide range of artists and genres including Eminem, Kelly Clarkson and anything heavy metal or rock. Although he loved many genres he loved christian music the most. Douglas enjoyed playing guitar for his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. He also enjoyed making his family laugh by sending a “new smile” picture update, dancing, telling jokes or just being his goofy self.
On July 2, 1994, Douglas married the love of his life, Tammy Vieyra. Together they built a strong, faithfilled home and raised four loving children. Douglas was a devoted husband, father, papa, and friend to all.
Douglas was a faithful member of the Cushing Free Will Baptist Church, where he often taught Sunday School. He had a deep love for studying the Bible and apologetics, always eager to learn, teach, and share truth. His heart for service extended far beyond the church walls— he lived his faith through action, consistently putting others before himself. One of the defining experiences of his life was a mission trip to Haiti, where he poured his heart into helping those in need.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Tammy Thompson; four children, Crissy Lilley and husband Justin, Adam Kelley and wife Kristin, Hannah Lee and husband Connor, and Hailey Piatt and husband Austin; one sister, Jackie Bush and husband Van, eight grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy: Sean Kelley, Ryker Lilley, Kendall Kelley, Katelynn Kelley, Easton Kelley, Brynlee Kelley, Lillian Kelley, and Brexleigh Lilley; and many nieces and nephews and extended family members he loved deeply.
