Charles David Holmby • April 3, 1945 - February 26, 2021

Charles David Holmby passed peacefully from this life on February 26, 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.

David was born on April 3, 1945 in Evanston, IL to proud parents Charles E. and Josephine (Maher) Holmby. He was raised in the Harlingen, Texas area on a farm. David would then join the U.S. Navy following in the footsteps of his favorite Uncle. He served in the Vietnam War active duty from 1963-1965 and as a Reservist until 1975. Throughout his life, David was known as a true patriot who loved his country and loved the great state of Texas. After his discharge from the Navy, David would stay in California and work at numerous jobs through years including Electrician, Car Salesman, Auto Mechanic, and as an Electronics Repairman. One of his greatest passions in life was music, and David was a talented DJ and dancer. On August 22, 1993 he would marry his absolute soul mate and best friend, Ellen.

David was a social butterfl y, he loved people and was so gifted in being able to visit about anything with anyone, anywhere. His life was truly an adventure, and he lived it to the fullest always exhibiting love to those he was around. After a 26-year journey, David was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints. He was a loyal and deeply committed person who had an endless love for his children and grandchildren.

David is preceded in death by four children, Wendy Lee Canales, David Michael Holmby, Amber Lynn Koelher, and Joel Thomas Rogers; his parents; and one brother, Lindsey Holmby.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; Children Charles David Holmby Jr. “Hahn” and wife Donna, Cynthia Ann Vieli and husband, Justin Kole Holmby and wife; grandchildren, Freedom Vanpelt and spouse, Charles Hann, Melinda Lindgren, Desiree Canales, Destiny Martindill and spouse, Jaadan Canales, Miranda Canales, and Brandon Justin Koelher, and Joel Thomas Williams; dear friends of 40+ years, Glenn Burgess, Bruce Gullacii, Heidi Bryand, Patrick Marine, and Mike Hymel; and many extended family members and friends.

The family will be holding a Memorial Service at a later date to celebrate Charles’ life.
