James Walker Lavery, 98, passed peacefully from this life on May 22, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK.
James was born on October 4, 1922 in Cushing, Oklahoma to proud parents William F. and Leanore (Walker) Lavery. He was raised in Cushing graduating with the Class of 1940. He would then enlist in the Army and serve four years overseas with the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. After his discharge he married Gayle and their union was blessed with two children, Mike and Susie. He raised is family in Cushing, owning Lavery Flowers and Greenhouses. After a couple years of single life, James met a sweet girl named Donna Moore on a mutual friend’s houseboat. This meeting would blossom into over 44 years of endless love as they were united in marriage in 1977. If he wasn’t working, James could probably be found on the water. He loved cruising rivers, taking the family out boating, and was even a partner and builder of Pier 51 Marina on Keystone Lake.
James is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mike; special mother-in-law Wilma Moore; brothers, Charles Lavery and William Lavery; son-in-law Steve Porter; granddaughter, Janna Porter; and his fi rst wife, Gayle.
He is survived by his wife Donna of the home; daughter Susie Porter of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Jay and wife Elizabeth Porter of Skiatook, OK, Matt and wife Michelle Porter of Waco, TX, Jill and husband Gary Nuckolls of The Woodlands, TX; greatgrandchildren, Ethan Porter, Jack Porter, Jeremiah Porter, Evelyn Porter, Foster Nuckolls, and Griffi n Nuckolls; and many extended family members and friends.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Euchee Valley Memorial Park in Cushing, Oklahoma.
