Phillip Eugene Wright, 76, of Cushing, Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Dewitt, Arkansas on February 18, 1945, to parents Dewey Shelton and Dorothy Elizabeth (James) Wright. He was a proud Veteran serving overseas in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge he drove a truck for 12 years off an on. He farmed for 9 years and was then a carpenter for over 24 years.
Eugene was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on July 31, 1963, at Oklahoma City Lake by Brother Thomas Neal. He loved to sing, in church with the brethren but even all alone in his car driving down the road. Some of his very favorites were “It is Love,” “Marching in the Light,” “Kneel at the Cross,” “Where the Soul Never Dies,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
Those preceded him in death are his parents; 2 precious daughters, Rene and Jennifer; brothers, Edward, Richard, Thomas, Bobby, Royce, James, Johnny, and Alvie Wright; sisters, Lucille Grissom, Luthelma Brickey, and Gladys Barrett; and daughter in law, Paula Wright.
Eugene is survived by his children, Phillip Wright of Cushing, OK, Tim Wright of Tulsa, OK, Marlene (Brian) Lee of Rogers, AR, Tracy (Regina) Wright of Cushing, OK, Darlene (David) Miller of Drumright, OK, Raymond (Kayla) Bateman of Tahoka, TX; his first wife, Glenda Brickey of Rogers, AR; siblings, Nolan (Charlene) Wright of DeWitt, AR, Oscar (Penny) Wright of DeWitt, AR, Joanne (Lawrence) McFarlin of Parkland, OK, Evon (David) Watkins of Pine Bluff , AR, Luther (Missy) Wright of Lovington, NM, and Geneva (Bill) Attberry of Las Vegas, NV; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many extended family members, and a host of brethren and friends.
Arrangements in Oklahoma have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing and will faithfully continue through Essex Funeral Home, Dewitt, Arkansas.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Essex Funeral Home, DeWitt, Arkansas. Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn with burial following in Thompson Cemetery. Brother Raymond Farrow will offi ciate.
