Imogene “Jean” Faye Matthews, longtime Cushing resident passed peacefully from this life on December 11, 2021, at Golden Oaks Nursing Home in Enid, Oklahoma. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Cushing, Oklahoma.
Jean was born on June 12, 1927, in Tryon, Oklahoma to proud parents Luther and Pearl (Walters) Brixey. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas before moving back to Oklahoma, graduating from Agra High School in Agra, OK. She married the love of her life, Jack Matthews on November 27, 1947, near Agra, Oklahoma. Their union was blessed with two children, Sam and Debbie. Jean was a wonderful mother, who fi lled her family’s home with love, laughter, and stability. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church; and was a devoted helper to her husband ministering to families for many years in the Cushing and Maramec communities as well as at Only Way Baptist Church near Stroud.
After retirement, Jean and Jack traveled to every state in the U.S. together and had such a wonderful time on their journeys. In her spare time, she also loved to do embroidery and read.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, and loving husband of over 63 years, Jack.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Dr. Sam and wife Kathy Matthews of Shawnee, OK, and Debbie and husband Cliff Biby of Nash, OK; grandchildren, Daniel and wife Yasha Matthews of Shawnee, Nathan Matthews of Shawnee, Stony and wife Michelle Biby of Tulsa, Cody and wife Melissa Biby of Blackwell; greatgrandchildren, Kalen Matthews, Ashlyn Matthews, Lani Matthews, Maci Matthews, Bailee and husband Sam Palmer, Malachi Biby, Rylee Biby, and Benaiah Biby; borther, Robert Harold Brixey and wife Sharon of Oklahoma City; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Family of Faith Church, 30 Kinville Shawnee, OK 74804. Interment will follow services at Tryon Cemetery in Tryon, Oklahoma. Memorial Donations can be made to Our Community Market of Pottawatomie County, 120 S. Center Shawnee, OK.
