Ethel Belle Chadwick • July 8, 1925 – January 15, 2022

Ethel Chadwick, longtime rural Cushing resident passed away peacefully in her home, on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022. Affectionately known as “Gran” and “GG”; she was 96. “Strong willed and tough as a boot”, she was proud of the fact she had lived on her own, independently to the very end. She always said she wanted to remain in her home until they carried her out and God granted her this wish.

Born on July 8, 1925, to parents Sarah Jane (Fillmore) and Herbert Greenwood. Raised in the Cushing area. She had 7 siblings who all helped run the family dairy. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1943. On April 4, 1943, she married Wayne Chadwick. Together they had 3 children; Gary, Debra, and Denise. In 1961, Ethel and Wayne built a home southwest of Cushing and moved the family to the farm. Son Gary passed away in 1966 and husband Wayne passed away a year later, in 1967, but Ethel stayed on the farm and raised her girls. She lived out the rest of her life there.

Ethel was a lifelong member of the Big Creek Church of the Brethren and enjoyed the fellowship of Women’s Work. She enjoyed watching OSU football games, doing crossword puzzles and word finds, daily walks when she was still capable and sitting on the patio watching her birds and squirrels. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, son Gary, brothers Bub and John Greenwood, sisters Opal Roe, Ruby Stiles, Beulah Killough and Florence Presley. She is survived by daughter Debra Gann and husband Kenneth, daughter Denise Parker and husband Bob, grandchildren Chad, Wes, and Jacob Parker, and Kendra Grimm, and a long awaited for great grandchild Finnley Grimm. She is also survived by one brother, George Greenwood and wife Marion, and one sister-in-law Lois Greenwood, wife of John, and many nieces and nephews.
