Jerry Oliver Holderread passed away at the age of 78 in his home in Cushing, Oklahoma, surrounded by family on February 16, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the First Christian Church of Cushing.
Jerry Holderread was a lifetime resident of Cushing, Oklahoma. He was born in Cushing on November 24, 1943 to Oliver and Oretta Holderread. Jerry was educated in the Cushing Public School system and excelled at athletics throughout his life. Jerry was a proud and instrumental member of the Cushing High School Football team that won the State Championship in 1961. Jerry began a collegiate football career at OU and then transferred to play at OSU, but was sidelined by injury. He continued to give back to younger generations by coaching numerous teams for multiple generations after him.
Jerry married the love of his life, Judith Kay Fisher, on December 22, 1963. They raised four children, Kim, Kristi, Kelly, and Kevin in Cushing. Jerry and Judy, founded Cushing Ready Mix in 1968, which later expanded into the construction industry and became Continental Concrete. Through their hard work and sacrifice, they built a successful business that continues to thrive with the next generation today. Jerry truly found his niche in life in the construction industry. His work was also his hobby. On the rare occasions when he did take a break from work, he loved to fish and hunt. In addition to his business responsibilities, he always enjoyed working hard tending to his farming and cattle operations. Jerry always loved to be outdoors.
Jerry very much knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He demonstrated this throughout his life with his actions, not by his preaching. Jerry’s family was his next priority in life. He loved them with his life and demonstrated this love and devotion to them through his hard work and sacrifice. Jerry also loved his church, the First Christian Church of Cushing. After Jerry formally retired from the business, he never slowed down, continuing to work just as hard in retirement. He found another way to give back to his church through his enthusiastic support of the children’s fall harvest carnival.
Jerry was a very generous man with a compassionate heart, always willing to give financially and of his time. One of his favorite ways to express this generosity was by giving away turkeys at Christmas, both to his friends and family, but especially to families in need. Jerry could get along with people from any walk of life. He treated everyone equally, with dignity and respect, regardless of their station in life. He was renowned for giving people second chances. People society had given up on always had a friend and champion in Jerry Holderread.
Jerry thrived on conquering challenges. He never gave up on any task or tackling any obstacle. His determination, drive and work ethic, were legendary and inspiring. After a lifetime of hard work and devotion, Jerry is now enjoying his eternal reward in peace. “I have fought the good fight,
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 NIV.
