November 12, 1923 - April 14, 2022
Graveside services were held at 11am April 19, 2022 at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Drumright, for longtime Drumright resident Walter E. Morris. Pastor Mark Jackson officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of the Don Smith Funeral Home.
Walter Earl Morris passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the age of 98. After several years of declining health, Walter died peacefully at his home with his daughter, granddaughter and devoted caregivers by his side.
Walter was born in Shamrock, Oklahoma on November 12, 1923, to father Joe Morris and mother Mary Stout Morris. The third of four children, Walter didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education and at an early age worked odd jobs joining with his older brother, Emmett, to help out their mother and siblings after being abandoned by their father. While working for a local farmer, he fell in love with the farmer’s daughter, Pauline. They married in 1943 and soon moved to the Oak Grove area where they raised four children. Walter was active in the community including serving on the Oak Grove School Board. A quiet man of integrity, he was always willing to help others.
Walt, as he was known locally, had a talent for repairing anything mechanical from diesel engines, vehicles, tractors to lawnmowers. He finally decided it was time to retire at the ripe old age of 94.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Matherly Morris, his parents, sister Naomi Morris Weaver, brothers Emmett and Harlis, a great-grandson and two sons-in-law. He is survived by his children, Camilla Haynes, Earlene Lawrence, Kevin Morris and Kara Rowell, nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
