Sager “Daryl” Larson

Sager “Daryl” Larson passed from this life on April 21, 2022. He had lived east of Stillwater. Daryl was born on March 27, 1929, to parents Sager E. Larson and R. Beryl Johnson Larson. He grew up and attended school in Moses Lake, Washington.

Daryl was valedictorian of his class and an Eagle Scout. He excelled in baseball, basketball and football throughout his high school career. After graduation, he attended The State College of Washington (now Washington State University). He attained his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1951. Daryl then went on to earn his master’s and PhD degrees in chemistry at the University of Illinois.

He was married to Ruth Naomi Wiegand Larson, and they had two sons, Dan Phillip and Daryl “Lee.” He spent his career teaching chemistry at Evangel College, Drury College (both in Springfield, Missouri), and Oklahoma State University.

Daryl was a deeply religious man and enjoyed studying the Bible. He was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Yale. After retirement, he spent many years in prison ministry at the state prison in McAlester.

One of the things that gives comfort to his sons and other family members is that now he is in heaven with our Lord and Savior. The other thing is that “he did life his way” – regardless of what his sons thought.

Daryl is survived by his sons and their spouses – Dan and Phyllis and Lee and Denise. He is also survived by his grandson Willie Jones and granddaughter Brittney Larson. Others are step grandchildren Joshua Arnett, Zachary Arnett, Lori Munger, Amy Davidson and Niki Milacek; step great grandchildren Andrew Arnett, Avery Arnett, Sydney Munger, Ford Milacek, Claire Milacek and Olivia Milacek; and one great-great grandson Walker Arnett.

His beloved sister Darleen and her husband Michael also survive, along with nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 26, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, at the Chapel of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing.

Honorary pallbearers are his great neighbors – Anne and Mitch Presley and Shannon and Kenny Tabor. In lieu of flowers, Daryl would have appreciated a gift to:
