Leon Darrell Thomas

Leon Darrell Thomas, 78, succumbed to cancer in the early morning hours of May 14, 2022. He was blessed to have his family with him.

Raised in Oklahoma, he was a graduate of Cushing High School and a member of the celebrated 1961 State Champion football team. He continued his education at Arizona State.

A Miner by trade, he was courageous enough to explore opportunities around the world, growing a successful career and developing industry leading expertise along the way.

His passion was golf, golf and more golf, but he wouldn’t miss a chance to watch or attend a football game, turn down a fishing trip, explore a National Park or vacation at the beach. He would scuba dive, play card games and ride roller coasters, as long as he was spending time with his family.

By example he taught his children to be hard working, self sufficient and willing to take bold risks. He demonstrated compassion, fortitude and good humor. He acted with kindness, fairness and tolerance, even when he was being a bossy know-it-all.

Above all, he showed us how to laugh, and love, and make each day matter.

Leon was a good man who left behind a lot of fond memories among those whose lives he touched. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; but also family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and golf buddies around the globe.
