Carolyn Kay Koble

Carolyn Kay Koble was born January 31, 1937, in Henderson, Texas, just in time for Bible school on Sunday morning, to Bedford Ward and Caroline Elsie (Graham) Smith. She departed this life on February 5, 2023, in Cushing at the age of 86 years.

As a minister’s daughter, Kay lived in many Texas towns; the family followed her father during WWII all over California until he went overseas. Kay moved to Yale as a teenager and graduated from Yale High School with the class of 1955. She attended Draughon’s Business School in Tulsa, Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma University.

Kay was united in marriage to Samuel “Sam” Koble on February 23, 1957, and to this union two children, Richard Lee and Cara Lou, were born. Sam preceded her in death on February 23, 2015, their 58th wedding anniversary.

She was secretary to Tom Hughes, Hughes Lumber Company, and paralegal for Sterling N. Grubbs, Attorney. She also taught piano and organ lessons to over 400 students over the years. She was a realtor for over 28 years, working with Century 21 Gould Realty, Century 21 Jolley Realty and Century 21 Millennium.

Kay was active in Beta Sigma Phi in Yale, Pilot Club of Cushing, and very active in the congregations at Town and Country Christian Church in Yale and since 1981, in Cushing Christian Church.

She loved her Lord, her husband, her family and her church family.

Kay is survived by her two children, Richard Lee Koble of Cushing and Cara Lou Rhodes and husband, Tommy, of Laporte, Colorado; grandchildren, Heather L. Gray, Raymond S. Rhodes, Tommy J. Rhodes, Jr. and Shawn A. Rhodes; several great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kay was preceded in death by one brother, Bedford David Smith.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., February 17, 2023 in the Cushing Christian Church with Pastor Jim Forrest officiating.
