Margie Green was born February 1, 1933 in Kemp, Oklahoma. Her family came to Cushing to live when her father went to work in one of the local refineries. Margie attended school for eight years in a rural school. She graduated from the eighth grade as the salutatorian. She wrote her first poem when she was in the seventh grade. The teacher said, “this is so good I am going to keep it.”
She attended Cushing High School for all four years. There she was on the yearbook and newspaper staff. She belonged to the school choir, Library Science Club, Vice President for the Future Homemakers Club. Margie was also a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation. In summers she worked for Glencliff Dairy Foods. That is where she met Bill Quick. After high school graduation they were married. Together they had four children. In their growing up years she worked at home as a professional seamstress. After Bill’s death in 1972 she worked as a teacher’s aide for the Cushing Schools. She took an OSU literature course at the local Vo-Tech which eventually led to full time college in two years. She began college at the age of 41 as a sophomore student. Upon graduation she took a job as a fifth grade teacher in Agra, Oklahoma. She retired in 1993. During these years she returned to writing. She writes about the beauty of nature. She remarried while doing her student teaching to John Testerman. Her oldest son was in the military stationed in Europe. This is how she got to visit many European countries. She was invited to a seminar in D.C. 1993 by invitation only. She is a lifetime member of the International Society of Poets. She got to visit the White House and Smithsonian, saw the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknown soldier. She has been featured in several anthologies and placed in the top 2 and 3% of writers. She has published “Footprints Still Whispering in The Wind” She is survived by her children David Quick Ron Quick, CeAnn Kelly and Randy Quick. Her grandchildren, Kelly Quick, Allen Quick, William Quick, Chase Quick, Randi Quick, Belle Marcom, Michael Quick, Matthew Quick, Alyssa Quick, Nathan Quick, Landry Kelly, Lauren Kelly, Jamie Cloud, Jenna Alexander, Jayden Alexander, Vernon Quick, Dylan Quick, Kyler Quick, Felicity Quick, Brandy Hollowday, Gauge Quick, Jareth Harmon, Tori Harmon, Ana Hermon, Kiri Harmon and Tori Getts and her brothers, James Green, and Richard Green.
She is preceded by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John Green, her brothers, Bud Green, and John Green and her two husbands Bill Quick and John Testerman.
She went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2023.
Services will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the First Indian Baptist Church in Cushing with burial following in the Morrison Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers Donations can be made to the First Indian Baptist Church.
