Timothy Paul Cox

Timothy Paul Cox, known to all as Tim, passed from this life on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at his home with family by his side.

Tim was born on January 4, 1960, to Mary (May) and Raymer Cox in McPherson, Kansas. At a young age, Tim lived in numerous states, including Illinois and Iowa. He lived most of his adolescence in Iowa, graduating from Molton-Udell High School in 1978. While in high school, Tim played basketball and was an avid cross-country cyclist. After high school, Tim attended McPherson College earning a Bachelor of Arts in business. Tim met his first wife, Susan, while studying at McPherson College. They were soon married and had their first child, his son, TJ. In 1983, Tim, Susan and TJ moved to Cushing, Oklahoma. Shortly after their arrival to Cushing, Tim’s first daughter Tabitha was born. A few years later, Tim and Susan welcomed another daughter Celena to the family.

Professionally, Tim spent 30 years in the food service industry. The move to Cushing was so he could take a management position working at Steer Inn Restaurant. He was there for 6 years before taking a leadership position in Dining Services at Oklahoma State University. He took part in all aspects of the dining services at the university including Catering and Management. He worked for OSU for 22 years.

Following his separation from Susan, Tim reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Rosie Grove. Tim and Rosie were married on June 8, 1997, in Unionville, Iowa after the birth of their daughter Kira.

Tim was an active and dedicated father. He was also passionate about music as a trombone player and listener of a variety of genres. Tim was proud to pass on his passion for music to all four of his children. Tim never missed a single Cushing Schools band concert, while each one of his kids were members. Tim also shared his talents and skills through music ministry at the Methodist Church and the Church of the Brethren.

In his free time, Tim could be found cooking or smoking meat for his family and friends. The only times he took a break from cooking were to watch his OSU Cowboys on Saturdays and Green Bay Packers on Sundays. Tim was also a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren with his most recent membership at the Big Creek Church of the Brethren in Cushing. Tim also had been a member of the Board of Trustees at McPherson College.

Tim is survived by his father Raymer Cox and his sister Margaret Nuscher; his wife, Rosie Cox; four children, T.J. Cox and wife Lindsey Bartgis, Tabitha DaMetz and husband, Justin, Celena Cox and husband Ryan Sullivan, and Kira Cox; three grandchildren, Julian DaMetz, Evelyn DaMetz, and Hollis DaMetz. Tim is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Tim is preceded in death by his mother, Mary (May) Cox.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. A Celebration of Tim’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at First United Methodist Church Cushing. Tim’s wishes were that family and friends would gather for fellowship and to share stories in a casual setting after the service. Light refreshments and ice cream (one of Tim’s favorites) will be served. The family would like to encourage attendees to wear their favorite Green Bay Packers, Oklahoma State, or Hawaiian shirt to the service in honor of Tim.

In addition to flowers, the family would also appreciate donations to Heifer International (www.heifer. org) or Cushing Bands general fund in Tim’s memory.
