ERNEST DARRELL MAYNARD

Ernest Darrell Maynard was born July 25, 1930, in Cushing, Oklahoma to Ernest Leland Maynard and Francis Clyde (Davis) Maynard. Darrell died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at OSU-Tulsa Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Darrell attended Cushing schools. He worked for the railroad in Dodge City, Kansas, and worked for the Deep Rock/Kerr-McGee Refinery in Cushing. He was in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, from 1955-1957.

Darrell and Rosalee Muzny were married on November 16, 1957, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cushing. They have one son, James, of Bristow.

Darrell opened Darrell’s Gas House filling station at 906 E. Main in Cushing in 1962 and operated it until 1985. He worked as a night watchman, then took up painting portraits at Lachenmayer Art Center in Cushing. He became a Catholic, going through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults in 1997.

Darrell had been involved in Cushing American Legion, served as Worshipful Master of Cushing Masonic Lodge, President of the Payne County Scottish Rite Masonic Society, and was Chapter Dad of Cushing DeMolay Chapter. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Keith Maynard, and Mitchell Maynard.

Surviving family members include Rosalee, his wife of 66 years; son, James; brother, Lyle Maynard of Meeker; sister, Treva Grissom of Stillwater; brother-inlaw, Alfred Muzny and his wife Vanita of Oklahoma City; sisterin- law, Betty Lucy of Edmond, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

A public viewing will be held Monday, February 19, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm at Matherly/Davis Funeral Home in Cushing, with a rosary service following at 7 pm at Matherly/Davis Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 10 am, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cushing, under the direction of Fr. Desmond lbeneme with interment to follow at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Prague, Oklahoma.
