Betty Whitefield Roe, born on September 9, 1947, to Joseph and Dorothy Whitefield, passed away peacefully in her home on September 16, 2024. She grew up in Haywood, OK, with her brothers, Rusty and Jerry. Betty moved to Ripley her ninth-grade year graduating with the Class of 1967. In recent years she resided in Cleveland to be closer to her daughter and family. Betty worked many jobs, her favorite of which was retail sales. She later worked in the field of radioactive remediation starting in Cushing, then Ohio and San Francisco. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Betty’s hobbies included leatherworking, listening to country music, reading, and enjoying meals with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Cantrell and Joseph Whitefield, and her brothers, Rusty and Jerry Whitefield. Betty is survived by her daughter Sheila and husband Mark Edgerton of Cleveland, OK, her grandchildren Erica and DJ Lorett of Sand Springs, Erin and Jake Fluman of Piedmont, and David Edgerton and his fiancé Darcie of Cleveland. She also cherished her great-grandchildren, Avery, Bristol, Landry, and Gunner. Betty is remembered for her warm spirit, laugh, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be missed by her sister-in-law Delpha Whitefield, niece Jeri Sue, nephew Travis, and their families.
A public celebration of Betty’s life will be held at the Presbyterian Methodist Fellowship Church in Cleveland on September 30, 2024, at 1 p.m. Anyone who would like to visit and share memories is welcome to do so at Mark and Sheila’s house following the service. Interment will be at Mt. Hope cemetery at a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Methodist Fellowship’s Blessing Box in Cleveland, OK, or to the Church of God in Ripley, OK, in her memory.
