Harley Blackburn

Harley Dean Blackburn, a lifelong Cushing resident, died Nov. 10, 2008. He was 82.
Graveside services under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Parkland Cemetery. Tony Emery will officiate.
Harley was born Oct. 22, 1925 in Cushing to Charley and Dollie Blackburn. He enjoyed attending Cushing Schools, where he developed a love of learning.
As a young man, Harley built a house in Cushing and moved into it with his parents and six sisters. He built a second house next door and moved into it with his new bride.
On June 21, 1953, Harley married Alta Evans; they had three sons. Harley and Alta lived their entire married life on Maple Street in Cushing. Alta was the love of his life; they enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
Harley was baptized in 1944 into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. He loved to sing those good old gospel songs.
He worked many different jobs to provide for his family. He was an honest, hard worker. He had a great love for growing things and operated a green house for several years. In his later years, he drove a star route for the postal service. He truly enjoyed this job. After retiring, Harley enjoyed working in his wood shop. He made and repaired wood furniture.
Harley was preceded in death by his loving wife Alta; one son, Scott; his parents Charlie and Dollie; one infant brother Ira; and five sisters, Frances Coker, Dorothy Patton, Thelma Patton, Freda Jacobs and Eva House.
He is survived by two sons, Bryan Blackburn of Warner Robins, Ga., and Kent Blackburn and wife Debbie of Chandler; three grandchildren, Chrystal Donaldson and husband Danny of Pawnee, Curtis Blackburn and wife Becky of Shawnee, and Heather Blackburn of Chandler; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Donaldson of Pawnee; and one sister, Edith Kyser of Cushing; plus many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
