Longtime Cushing resident Nadine Pierce died Dec. 21, 2008 in Lindwood Village, Cushing. She was 78.
She was born Aug. 14, 1930 in Cushing to Henry Albert and Mae Elizabeth Pack Troxell. She was reared and educated in Cushing.
On Dec. 28, 1947, she married Odell Pierce. They had five children.
Nadine was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She cleaned the church for a number of years.
She loved spending time with her family and was well known for her cooking, especially her pies, chicken dumplings and her Spanish delight. Every Sunday afternoon, the children and their families would come over for a delightful lunch.
She was on numerous bowling leagues and won many trophies.
Nadine enjoyed taking care of others, cleaning homes and ironing for many.
She is survived by her sons, Bob Pierce and wife Annie of Mulhall, Les Pierce and wife Leslie of Stillwater, and Rocky Pierce and wife Debra of Cushing; daughters Kay Hess of Cushing, and Patricia Johnson and husband Bill of Oklahoma City; brothers Cleo Melburn Troxell of Kileen, Texas and Freddie Lee Troxell of Dale; and an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a great-grandson.
Funeral services under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Cushing were Tuesday in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial was in Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ruth Clemons

Ruth P. Clemons, longtime Cushing resident, died Dec. 21, 2008 at Cushing Regional Hospital. She was 92.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the memorial chapel at Davis Funeral Home in Cushing. The Rev. Mike Clark of First Church of God in Yale will officiate.
Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery at Yale.
The daughter of the late John and Ellar Acklin, Ruth was born April 6, 1916 in Wiseman, Ark. She came to Oklahoma at an early age.
On Oct. 25, 1936 in Yale, she married Willard Clemons. They had two sons.
She is survived by one son, Rick Clemons of Dallas, Texas; a daughter-in-law Darlene Smith and her husband Vernon of Wichita, Kan.; grandchildren Frances Engle and her husband Paul of Wichita, Kan., Wesley Clemons and wife Margo of El Dorado, Kan., Mark Clemons of Wichita, Kan., Benjamin Clemons and Russell Clemons, both of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren Charoline Clemons, Josuah Clemons, Chad Clemons, Levi Clemons, Kaylie Clemons, Ian Clemons, Caroline Clemons and Lucas Clemons; a brother Johnnie and his wife Imogene Acklin of Yale; one sister-in-law Mildred Hampton of Yale; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, one brother, Earl Acklin, and one sister, Mae Phillips, preceded Ruth in death.

Lydia Shoemaker

Funeral services have been scheduled for lifelong Cushing resident Lydia Madge Shoemaker, 79. She died Dec. 21, 1008 at her home.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing. Burial will be in Fairlawn-New Zion Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lydia was born Oct. 26, 1929 in Cushing to Carl and Edna Thompson. She was raised and lived in the Cushing area.
Sixty-one years ago, she married Everett Shoemaker. They worked side by side in a mechanic business that later became Everett’s Auto Supply & Garage, then Green Light Auto and Parts Plus Auto Parts Store.
Lydia enjoyed ceramics and had a complete shop in the rear of the parts store. She belonged to a quilting club, traveled extensively and did crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Everett; two children, Alice Shenold and husband J.R., of Cushing, and Bob and wife Pam Shoemaker of Drumright; four grandchildren, Kelley Shenold, currently serving in the Air Force in the United Arab Emirates and his wife Sheri of Cushing, Justin Shenold and Kim Fultz of Stillwater, Keri Thompson and husband Rico of Cushing and Kim Gaither and husband Brant of Cushing; six great-grandchildren; Gregory Shenold, Kyle-James Shenold, Tyler Thompson, Amanda Thompson, Kyla Gaither, all of Cushing, and newborn Iris Susanne Fultz-Shenold of Stillwater.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lloyd Thompson; her sister, Lillian Cantrell; and a great-granddaughter, Britany Laine Shenold.

Viola Jones

Graveside services are in Pawhuksa for longtime Cushing resident Viola M. Jones, 94. She died Dec. 21, 2008 in Linwood Village Nursing Home.
Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home and will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Pawhuska Cemetery. The Rev. Ted Hoffman of First United Methodist Church, Pawhuska, will officate.
Viola was born Sept. 22, 1914 in Pawhuska to the late Alex and Lula Colhous Fisk. She was reared and educated in Pawhuska and graduated from Pawhuska High School.
On May 2, 1937 in Pawhuska, she was united in marriage to Thomas Jones. He preceded her in death in 1958.
Viola was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Methodist Women’s Society and served as a volunteer with the Cushing Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
For more than 25 years, she worked at Dunkin Theatre.
Survivors include her son, Tom Jones and his wife Alice of Cushing; one brother, Charles Fisk of Washington; one grandchild, Kevin Jones and his wife Jennifer of Mustang; two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Isabelle Jones; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions in Viola’s memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Cushing.

Frankie Britton

Funeral services were Tuesday for long-time Cimarron Valley resident Frankie Lee Britton, 69. She died Dec. 20, 2008 at her home in Parkland.
She was born Jan. 20, 1939 in Agra to Herman Elgan and Georgia Brewer Looney. She was reared and educated in the Cushing-Agra area.
On Oct. 28, 1956, she married Don Britton. They lived in San Antonio, Texas, and Colorado Springs, Colo., before returning to Parkland.
Frankie Lee, known as “Auntie,” “Abbie” or “Nan,” was a member of the Church of the Firstborn. She enjoyed cooking for her family and her church family, taking care of others and being with her club friends.
Frankie especially loved spending time with her family. She formerly owned and operated “Apple Abbie’s” in Agra. She enjoyed her Apple and Bell collection.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Don; sons Bryan Britton and wife Beverly of Ingalls and Darin Britton of Cushing; daughter Vickie Weigel and husband Mike of Edmond; adopted sons Heath Britton and William Britton, both of the home; brothers J. W. Looney and wife Gladys of Bakersfield, Calilf., and Darrel Ray Looney and wife LaWanna of Cushing; sisters Vera Stevens of Agra, LaVern Lane and husband Jack of Stillwater, Phyllis Berry of Arlington, Texas, and Bobbie Jean Burnett of Perkins; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Crystal Gale Britton; and brothers James Looney and Clifton Looney.
Services under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Cushing were in Parkland Church of the Firstborn. Randall Wright and Richard Wright officiated.
Burial was in Parkland Cemetery.
