CUSHING – When the text message popped up at the top of Mercedes Cargill’s phone screen, all she saw was a small photo of what looked to be a ribbon.
The message was from Randy Roberts, her rawhide braiding mentor. He had just submitted a braided rawhide quirt – a short-handled braided whip with a leather popper used for carrying horseback – Cargill made for the 2023 World Leather Debut competition…
