CHS Principal Mike Wayland, Cushing Public Schools Superintendent Koln Knight and School Board Members Barrett Shupe and Trudy Evans distributed diplomas to 100 members of the graduating class of 2020, as they walked across the stage at a long-anticipated live graduation ceremony held at Cushing High School’s O’Dell Field Friday, June 19.

Knight said that after losing the spring of their senior year to COVID-19 restrictions, he was determined to give the 2020 graduating class a live ceremony.

Valedictorians Jonathan Huseman, Keaton Crooks and Ian Sumpter each delivered addresses to their fellow classmates offering advice, retrospect and introspect, but Sumpter stole the stage by closing his address with a full-on, public marriage proposal to his nowfiance Jackie Van De Poel, who was in the stands.
