CUSHING - Those coming into city limits on Main Street from the West side will have noticed a major demolition overhaul of properties to the North. The property addressed as 609 North Cleveland was recently donated to the City of Cushing by the Webb family with the condition it be used for a future dog park.

Tornadoes Return to Oklahoma in March

April 1, 2024 Oklahoma’s weather was mostly lamb during March, although it did have its lion moments. The state experienced only one true outbreak of severe weather, but that single event on March 14 was significant nonetheless with two confirmed tornadoes in McIntosh and McCurtain counties and hail greater than softball size in Ada.

Yale officers assaulted during arrest of repeat offender

YALE - Members of the Yale Police Department who responded to a disturbance call in Yale were confronted by a hatchet-wielding ex convict. On March 25, 2024, Yale Police Chief Phillip Kelly and officer Alesha Hammons responded to a call from Grand Lake Mental Health Center, in Stillwater, that Jimmy Lee Neely, 40, of Yale was involved in a domestic altercation with a Yale homeowner he was staying with.

Teens learn the art of self-defense at the library

STILLWATER – Stillwater Martial Arts is partnering with the Stillwater Public Library (SPL) to offer a free self-defense class for teens in grades 6-12 on Friday, April 26, from 5:306:30 p.m. Attendance is free and open to all teens in the Payne County area. Registration is optional for this program, but interested teens are encouraged to register to receive email reminders.

CUSHING — Official election results as posted by the Oklahoma State Election Board for local coverage areas showed Preston McIntire as the leader for Ripley Public Schools Office No. 4, Karen Hart as the leader for Seat No. 3 of the City of Yale commission, and Richard P. Adsit as the leader for Seat No. 4 of the City of Yale commission as well as over 50 percent of voters in favor of the City of Yale proposition as of April 3.

CLE collecting eclipse glasses for South American students

CUSHING — Wait! Before you throw those used eclipse glasses into the trash can, Cushing Lower Elementary School (CLE) will be collecting used and new solar eclipse glasses to send to South American students so that they can view their eclipse in the fall.
