Our sun experienced a coronal mass ejection Thursday, a phenomenon that occurs regularly, in varying levels of intensity, where the sun emits a large cloud of energy and charged electrons into space. Thursday’s event threw a large mass of energy toward Earth and when these particles came into contact with Earth’s magnetic field, they lit up the skies with the Aurora Borealis as far south as Oklahoma as evidenced in this photo, taken Sunday night, southwest of Cushing. The City of Cushing power distribution team held a coloring contest for the students at Cushing Upper and Lower Elementary. First, second, and third place winners were selected by team members and awarded their prizes last week during Public Power Week.
