Oil storage tanks at the Cushing hub sit at low capacity. Each tank has a floating lid that rises and falls with the oil inside to prevent product evaporation and buildup of explosive gasses in the headspace. Oil investors and oil market intelligence firms monitor the height of these lids to determine how much oil is in each tank. A lower lid indicates less oil in storage. Photo by Caleson Coon.
