Agriculture Youth Council Applications Now Available

OKLAHOMA CITY — Applications for the 202425 Agriculture Youth Council are now available for Oklahoma high school students entering their senior year in the fall of 2024. Members will meet once a month during the school year.

Drumright Commission selects Police Chief for City Manager position

DRUMRIGHT — Mark Whinnery announced he would be retiring from the position of Drumright city manager after nearly 12-years which raised the question, who would fill his shoes? The commission recently answered by selecting current Drumright Police Chief Shawn Gibson after a two month long search.

Contractor sues Payne County Commission

STILLWATER - The Payne County Board of Commissioners Monday declared H&G Paving of Muskogee was in default of a contract with the county concerning a road paving project in District 3. The Commissioners also met in executive session to discuss a lawsuit filed against the county from H&G Paving over the Commissioner’s declaration of contract default against the company.

Cushing man injured in collision with power pole

CUSHING — A Cushing man was seriously injured last week when he apparently drove a full-sized pickup into a brand new metal electrical pole on Ninth Street in Cushing. According to a report by investigating officer Heather Snow, of the Cushing Police Department, Jerry Willis Hiltzman, 50, of Cushing was driving a 2005 Dodge 1500 Ram pickup east on Ninth Street just east of the intersection with Thompson Avenue, at approximately 3:30 p.m., when the truck drifted across oncoming, westbound traffic, departed the road to the left and struck a recently installed metal electrical distribution pole head-on.

Police find body of man missing since October

CUSHING - On November 11, 2023, 26-yearold Zachary Kyle Brasel was reported missing to the Cushing Police Department. Zachary Brasel was last seen on October 23, 2023. Cushing Police Department requested the investigative assistance of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations on November 16, 2023.

CUSHING - Those coming into city limits on Main Street from the West side will have noticed a major demolition overhaul of properties to the North. The property addressed as 609 North Cleveland was recently donated to the City of Cushing by the Webb family with the condition it be used for a future dog park.

Tornadoes Return to Oklahoma in March

April 1, 2024 Oklahoma’s weather was mostly lamb during March, although it did have its lion moments. The state experienced only one true outbreak of severe weather, but that single event on March 14 was significant nonetheless with two confirmed tornadoes in McIntosh and McCurtain counties and hail greater than softball size in Ada.

Yale officers assaulted during arrest of repeat offender

YALE - Members of the Yale Police Department who responded to a disturbance call in Yale were confronted by a hatchet-wielding ex convict. On March 25, 2024, Yale Police Chief Phillip Kelly and officer Alesha Hammons responded to a call from Grand Lake Mental Health Center, in Stillwater, that Jimmy Lee Neely, 40, of Yale was involved in a domestic altercation with a Yale homeowner he was staying with.
