August Golden Shovel recipients named

Payne County Master Gardeners are pleased to announce the August recipients of the Golden Shovel award in Cushing. Curtis and Farrah Rogers-Tucker moved into their home at 323 E. 9th Street in 2016, where there were no beds or trees in the front yard at all!

So long summer

Agra Junior High/High School students and staff celebrated “So long summer” day last Thursday, Sept. 8. The celebration included indoor and outdoor activities, grilled hot dogs and Dole Whip, beach attire and competitions between classes.

Parental Rights in Oklahoma

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary – Civil Committee hosted an interim study by Rep. Danny Williams on parental rights in Oklahoma, particularly in cases of alleged child abuse or neglect.

Cushing man injured in motorcycle crash near Ripley

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, a motorcycle crash occurred on SH-108 a half mile south of Ripley, according to a report by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Steve Burrows. James Randall, 52, of Cushing, was driving a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on SH-108 when he struck a deer.

Tip of the Week

Practice a little patience with that person driving like a grandmother in front of you. It’s someone’s grandmother. Imagine that she is your grandmother and maybe you’ll calm down a little. It’s called respect. If you’re in hurry, you should have left home earlier. If you’re not in a hurry, relax.
