Neighboring businesses saved CUSHING — Black smoke was already pushing into the Sunday afternoon sky when a call came into the Cushing Fire Department about a possible fire in the area of the H&R Block building. The call came in at 4:13 p.m.. The first firefighter arrived at 4:14 p.m. at 409 E.

Area students earn university academic honors

KANSAS — Two area college students have been recognized for academic achievement during the fall 2025 semester.Wichita State University announced that Dawson B. Herd of Cushing was named to the university’s Dean’s Honor Roll. Nearly 4,000 students earned the distinction.
