Senior Citizen Center Welcomes Back Seniors

Senior citizens are now being welcomed back to the Cushing Senior Citizen Center with optional face mask use and open arms (figuratively speaking, no one is going to hug you without permission, probably) for five days a week.

Bank of Cushing names new board members

Bank of Cushing, a branch of Blue Sky Bank, Pawhuska, has announced the addition of Dr. Rebecca Davis and Matt Turner to its Cushing Board of Directors. Dr. Davis is a graduate of The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery.

COVID-19 Update

Oklahoma State Department of Health as of July 19 reports 461,893 total cases since testing began, an increase of 2,688 since last reported. The active cases are reported at 3,458 active cases, an increase of 3,458 from last week. There have been 451,018 recoveries reported since testing began.

What to do About District 32

Oklahoma House of Representatives redistricting will occur following the Oklahoma state census finalized numbers, which should be released around September of this year.

Area districts receive grants

Drumright, Ripley and Olive school districts were among 181 school districts that received the School Counselor Corps Grant from the Oklahoma State Department of Education. The initiative — part of the state education department's pandemic recovery plan — uses $35.

Local Olympians remembered

In honor of the Olympics starting this week, we take a dive into Cushing’s history and two Olympians that hailed from Cushing. Robert Pearce Pearce graduated in 1928 from Cushing High School and went on to wrestle for Oklahoma State University, winning the NCAA title in 1931.

Cushing 11U at State Tourney

The Cushing Tigers 11U had a quick appearance in the state tournament this weekend. They went 0-2 and had a tough draw against Ada and Red Oak in a last inning thriller. Cushing however, was the only 11U team there. They played against 12U teams in this state tournament.
