Most months, nearly breaking an all-time tornado record would dominate Oklahoma’s weather headlines. However, March 2025 will be remembered for a different kind of disaster—one of the worst wildfire outbreaks in state history, overshadowing all else.

CUSHING — After a quarter of a century, Cushing Fire Department Captain Justin Menser officially retired this past Monday, March 31. He was honored with a retirement ceremony hosted by fellow department members and a plaque of recognition that displayed his captain’s patch and a golden axe.

CUSHING — The Donaldson-Walker American Legion Post 108 for the Cushing and Drumright area held a commemoration ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War on Saturday, March 29.

Oklahoma did not adopt a state flag upon joining the Union on Nov. 16, 1907. Instead, Gov. Charles N. Haskell commissioned 92 women from across the state, including First Lady Lillian Elizabeth Haskell, to sew a U.S. flag with 46 stars to commemorate statehood.
