Melanie Ann Vier

Melanie Ann Vier was born on April 21st, 1968, in Mobile, Alabama to Owen Lowery Smith and Paulette Dewitt. She received her early education in Grand Bay, Alabama. She moved to Cushing, Oklahoma in November 1986 and met her Husband, Richard shortly after. Richard and Melanie married on September 10th, 1990, in Cushing and together they raised four children. April Butterfield, Lindsay Ledbetter, Ryan Vier, and Megan Simpson.

In her early working years, Melanie worked with her husband and in-laws (Roy and Marilyn Vier) in the management of Bingo Halls and Snack Bars across Oklahoma. Outside of her family and friends, Melanie enjoyed sewing, quilting, and embroidery. In 2019 she opened her own embroidery business, Melbre Southern Stitches.

To know Melanie was to love her. She had an incredible work ethic, and would do anything for her family, friends, and their friends. She loved to cook and was great at it. Her door was always open, show up anytime, no matter who you are, you were welcome. She took family holidays very seriously, she cherished going back to the beach where she grew up and any travel with family, loved a good gossip session, and anything that could make her cry laughing.

Throughout Melanie’s life, she was confronted with many medical challenges. Melanoma in 1992, sarcoma, lung, kidney, and liver cancer in 2004. Early-stage lung cancer in 2006. Melanie received a kidney transplant in July 2015 and began working on her fight against AML Leukemia in June 2023.

She stood on faith every time a new diagnosis was given to her. Always with the words, “at least it’s not someone else”. In true Melanie fashion, with her contagious smile and infectious laugh, she leaned on her family and friends to confront each new challenge. Faith and family are what Melanie believed to be the main ingredients for a happy and full life.

Melanie passed from this life on October 8th, 2026, and became our angel at the age of 58.
