Barbra Jean “Sweet-Thang” Prather

On August 31, 1959, Barbra was born in the Cushing Best Hospital to her proud parents, Mary Lee Verner and Willie G. Prather, Jr.

Barbra attended grade school, junior high and high school in the Cushing area where she received her diploma. Deciding to further her education, she enrolled in nursing classes in San Francisco, California to become a nurse. Being homesick along with being a daddy’s girl, Barbra decided to come back home to utilize her nursing skills.

In 1979, Barbra met Oliver Woodberry and gave birth to Lakeshia and one year later gave birth to her son Jason Woodberry. A few years later, Barbra met Richard Thompson and her baby girl Amanda was born.

Barbra is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lakeshia Durham; brother, John Prather; and cousin, Marshale Davis.

Barbra is survived by her son, Jason Woodberry of Cushing, OK and Amanda Prather of Cushing, OK; brothers, Cornelius Prather of Stillwater, OK and Lil’ Willie Prather of Cushing, OK; sisters, Teresa Wilson of Muskogee, OK and Jackie Copeland and husband David of Oklahoma City, OK. She leaves behind four grandchildren and a bunch of nieces and nephews.

Barbra was a caregiver. She loved taking care of people while working at the Dollar Store, the Cushing Hospital and Resthaven Nursing Home.

Barbra passed from this life surrounded by her family on February 27, 2024, at her home in Cushing, Oklahoma.
