Carol Jo Brown Bradley Smith passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 in Simpsonville, SC.

Carol was born on Monday, December 5, 1938 in Lincoln County, OK to Lawrence E and Juanita Brown. Carol and her family moved to Cushing as a young child where she attended and graduated high school in 1956. In March of 1957, she married Marvin Ray Bradley. They had two children together. They were married until his passing in 2000. While her children were in school she volunteered with PTA and Girl and Cub Scouts. Carol was also Voting Precinct Inspector and a substitute teacher for Cushing Public Schools for several years. Starting in June 1986, Carol worked as a secretary for Oklahoma State University in the Department of Animal Sciences; she also served on the OSU Staff Advisory Council. During her time there she received the Staff Advisory Council Distinguished Service Award. Carol retired in January 2002, and after retirement she was the co-leader of Cushing Community Food Bank. In April of 2001, Carol married Charles Wilmer Smith. They were married until his passing in 2012. Carol was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Cushing. In 2019, she moved to Piedmont, SC to be near her children. While living there she attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Laurens, SC and Northside United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC to support her son-in-law’s pastoral ministry. In her free time, Carol enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading. Carol was such a sweet, gentle, and giving woman. Her kind soul will be greatly missed.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Juanita Brown; her husband Marvin Bradley, her husband Wilmer Smith; her son Jeffrey Wayne Bradley; her step-son Bobby Smith; her sisters Freida Marilyn Brown Merrill and Sibyl Delores Brown Hawk and her nephew Leslie Merrill.

Carol is survived by her daughter Janna Carol Bradley Harder and husband Anthony “Tony” of Piedmont, SC; her grandchildren Jessica Rae Harder Evans and husband Josh of Piedmont, SC, Katelyn Jo Harder Luna and husband Jonathan of Pelzer, SC, Laura Carol Harder of Orlando, FL, Ashley Nadine Harder Davis and husband Matt of Tahlequah, OK, Randal “Randy” George Bradley and wife Misty of Edmond, OK, Eric Marvin Bradley and wife Erin of Stroud, OK, Kaylie Joann Bradley Brown and husband Stephen of Tulsa, OK and Steven LaRue Bradley of Edmond, OK; 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; she is also survived by many extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 2:00PM at First Baptist Church, Cushing, OK with Pastor Tony Harder officiating, burial to follow at Avery Memorial Cemetery. There will be a viewing at First Baptist Church Cushing on Thursday prior to her service at 11:30am until 1:30pm. The family asks that donations be made either to the Alzheimer’s Association, Avery Cemetery Association or the Cushing Community Food Bank.
