Carroll was born on February 10, 1933 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He grew up in Okemah, Oklahoma where he lived until he graduated from Okemah High School. He then attended college at Oklahoma A&M (OSU) where he studied agriculture and architecture. He joined the U.S. Army serving his country in active duty during the Korean War and then the Reserves.

Carroll married his wife, Virginia Marie Woods, on January 19, 1954 in Cushing, Oklahoma where they made their home and raised their children. They were married 51 years until her death in 2005.

Carroll began his career as a Lab Technician working for the Midland Oil Refi nery in Cushing, later known as Hudson Refi nery. After Hudson closed, he ended his career in the oil business at Sinclair in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After a brief retirement, he began working at WalMart in the Sporting Goods Department.

Carroll enjoyed fi shing, hunting, organic gardening, camping, boating and water skiing. He liked listening to and playing bluegrass music on his guitar with his friends. Carroll was very artistic. He played a number of musical instruments, carved wood sculptures, and made homemade knives. He was a man of many talents and interests. If he didn’t know how to make something, he would learn and was always willing to teach others. Carroll loved nature and animals. He was even joked about being a Dr. Doolittle as he seemed to know what the animals wanted and even had a couple of birds purposely bring his attention to a need.

Carroll loved spending time and making special memories with and for his family, both close and extended. He was a great example and taught his family the basics of life and enjoying the simple things. He was greatly loved and respected by his family, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and many, many other family and friends. Even those at the Memory Care all adored him and even gave him the special nickname PawPaw.

Carroll is survived by his three children: Julie Chesney and husband Mark of American Fork, Utah, Barbara Collier of Cushing, and Matthew Collier of Norman; grandchildren: Scott Chesney, Ammon Chesney and wife McKenzie, McKay Chesney Gasser and husband Sam, Ryan Chesney and Annika Collier; great grandchildren Jacob and Evan Chesney, Caden and Emree Peterson; Adam, Ashley, Madlyn and Tyler Gasser.
