Cecil C. Whalen, 90, of Cushing, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Born in Osage City, Kansas. Cecil graduated from Minneapolis High School before earning his degree from Kansas State University launching a distinguished career as a structural engineer.
His professional journey spanned Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Arkansas, but it was his adventurous years in Alaska working on the Alyeska Pipeline alongside his beloved second wife, Betty, that defined much of his legacy. Cecil later dedicated his expertise to the State of Oklahoma Department of Corrections, contributing to critical facility upgrades.
A man of simple pleasures and enduring passions, Cecil found joy in tending his yard, collaborating with Betty on many home remodeling projects, and the friendly competition of a game of pitch. Alaska held his heart through salmon fishing expeditions, and he cherished the companionship of his cats for many years.
Cecil is survived by his son Anthony and his wife Tami, grandchildren Ethan Whalen (Lexi), Emma Krempl (Sam), brother Larry and wife Johan with their children, and first wife Christine. He was preceded in death by his second wife Betty, parents Cecil E. and Marie J. Whalen, and stepmother Evelyn. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Cushing, Oklahoma.
