Dennis “Wade” Vassar passed from this life on August 10, 2022. His care has been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, OK.
Wade was born on May 23, 1967, to Dennis and Carolyn Vassar. He lived his entire life on the family farms west of Cushing. During his youth, he was active in farming, raising, and showing registered shorthorns, and wrestling. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1985 and then completed his Associate’s degree at OSU Tech in Okmulgee.
Wade and Sherri met in 1988 and were united in marriage on June 25, 1994. In 1998, they were blessed with their son, Dustin.
Wade had an early aptitude for anything mechanical. This talent led to his first position with Armstrong for almost 20 years. He never had the ability to only have one job at a time. Therefore, he also taught at Meridian Technology Center while working nights at Armstrong. In addition, Wade and Sherri operated a machine shop and Advanced Drilling in their “spare time”.
In 2014, Wade and Dustin started Advanced Septic Pumping and Portable Rentals. They worked side by side everyday as Wade mentored Dustin to take over one day.
Wade enjoyed spending time with family, going to Little Sahara with Lani and building his Chevy truck. Above all, Wade enjoyed working. He was the ultimate handyman. As Lani says, “If Papa can’t fix it, no one can.”
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Wade is survived by his wife, Sherri of the home, his son Dustin Vassar of Cushing, his sister Kim Vassar and her husband Dwayne White of Pawnee, OK, his granddaughter Lani Vassar of Cushing, special friend of the family Madison Hayes of Cushing, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, in Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Green officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
