Gail McKnight

Phyllis “Gail” Chambers was born on March 4, 1943, to Andrew L. (Doc) and Freda P. (Young) Chambers in their home on the Texaco, Reynolds Lease, outside Oilton, OK. She passed into the arms of Jesus on February 2, 2024, with her loved ones by her side.

In 1957 the family moved to Bristow, OK where she graduated from Bristow High School in 1961.

After graduation, Gail met her “Knight” in Shining Armor, William L. (Bill) McKnight, II. They were married on December 22, 1961 at First Baptist Church Bristow, OK. Following Bristow they lived in Sedalia, MO, Westville, OK, Cushing, OK and Pauls Valley, OK. In Pauls Valley she was Financial Clerk for Pauls Valley Public Schools. She retired in 1998 after 22 years of service in the Administrative Office. After retirement Gail and Bill moved to Cushing, OK. She was a member of the Cushing First Baptist Church.

Gail was known affectionately as Grandma Gail to people of all ages. Gail loved cooking and baking for her family and friends, especially making butter cookies. After retiring, Gail’s pastime was crocheting edges on flannel baby blankets and adult napping blankets for family and friends. She considered crocheting her therapy. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.L. (Doc) and Freda Chambers, her brother Gary Chambers and sister-in-law Patricia Chambers and her father and mother-in-law William L. and Julia McKnight.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill McKnight, son Max McKnight and his wife Sandra, son Steve McKnight and his wife Kim, grandchildren Madison Camp and her husband Clay, Isaac McKnight and his wife Dr. Shannon McKnight, Dr. Cole McKnight and his wife Gabbe, Mackenzie Williams and her husband Jonathan and Alexys McKnight. Also greatgrandchildren Dean and Harry Camp.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cushing First Baptist Church Nursery Fund.

Public Visitation Tuesday, February 6, 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the Matherly Davis Family Center. Funeral services Wednesday, February 7, 10:00 am, First Baptist Church, Cushing, OK – Graveside to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. If you attend either event and were the recipient of one of her crocheted blankets you are encouraged to bring it with you. Services are under the direction of Matherly-Davis Funeral Home.
