Hurshel Harold Haley, 91, left us November 30, 2022, with his family by his side in Magnolia, Texas. He was born May 21, 1931, in Yale, Oklahoma, to Lillie Hope Taylor Haley and James Isaac Haley. He graduated from Yale High School in 1949. He served in the US Army from 1951-1954. In October 1955, Hurshel married Erma Glenndeana “Deana” Seybert, with whom he raised two children, Sheila and Harold Haley. His career was in steel construction. He was a co-owner of Shiloh Tank Co. in Springdale, Arkansas, for over 25 years.
In 1986, Hurshel and Deana retired to Texas to train horses and compete in barrel racing. He won his last saddle in December 2014, at the age of 83. The Haleys trained dozens of horses and riders, making longtime friends of all ages. Hurshel gave his time and talent generously to family, friends, and the community.
Hurshel was preceded in death by his beloved son, Harold Dean Haley, his parents, Lillie and James Haley, and siblings and spouses Maralee and Floyd Lann, and Frank Dennis; Marieta and Lloyd Stoops; J.R. and Ruth Haley; Wade and Wanda Haley; and Glen and Betty Haley.
Hurshel is survived by his wife of 67-years, Deana Haley; his daughter, Sheila Haley and grandchildren Cody, Carson, and Cameron Haley-Smith; daughter-in- law, Knawonna Haley and grandsons Terrence Foy, Logan Haley and Mason Haley; his brother and sister- in- law, Leon and Mary Haley: and many loved nieces and nephews, extended family and friends he loved as family.
Memorial service is December 12, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Magnolia Funeral Home, 811 Magnolia Boulevard, Magnolia, Texas 77355. Interment at Houston National Cemetery to be at a later date.
