May 31, 1939 - March 23, 2022
“I’ve done all I can do.”
That was how Jack D. Smith, Jr. told his brother Howard goodbye, less than a day before he departed this world for a better place.
Some might think that a signal of surrender is inevitable.
But to those who knew and loved him, all he could do is what made him so special to us during the nearly 83 years we spent with him.
Jack will always be remembered as a person who provided comfort and support to grieving families throughout most of his life as a licensed embalmer and funeral director. Outside of work, he was a friend to all who willingly donated his time to those less fortunate to help them take care of landscaping and tree trimming needs.
Jack and Sandra together raised two beautiful daughters that he supported and loved until he was called home. He also cared for and loved a nearly innumerable parade of feathered, furred and hooved babies over the decades, most recently his horse Blackberry and his little buddy, a beagle named Opie.
Jack D. Smith Jr. was born on May 31, 1939, in Webb City, Oklahoma. He left the world on March 23, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Jack is survived by two daughters, Sondra Lynn Money and husband Jack, and Serena Lou Wallace and husband Brad. He also is survived by his best friend and wife of 45 years, Sandra Lou Smith; brothers, Earl, Howard, and Victor; a sister, Vicki Fries; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack is preceded in death by his father, Jack D Smith, Sr.; his mother, Doris B. Smith; and his brother, Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests anyone wishing to honor Jack’s memory to support the OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center and Free to Live, a nonprofit that takes care of abandoned animals in Edmond, Oklahoma.
