Larry Lee (Sponge) Sparkman was born in Cushing Oklahoma o n Dec15,1946 he graduated Cushing high School in 1965. He received his bachelor degree from OSU in 1971 and taught in 9 school district over 52yrs. He directed the choirs for 1st. Presbyterian, and 1st. Christian churches in Cushing, and 1st. First Christian Okmulgee, 1st. Methodist, Mannford. He taught himself to play keyboard then played organ for St. Anthony’s Catholic Church 30yrs. And Most recently 1st. Methodist Church in Okmulgee. Both churches on Sunday mornings. He taught guitar at Woods music store 15yrs.
He is preceded in death by father Cecil H (Shorty) Sparkman, mother Dorothy (Pack) Sparkman, brothers Don and Jerry Sparkman and grandson Trevor Aycox. He is survived by wife Kimberli (Swift)Sparkman whom he married Jan 5,1974. Together they have three children Kristi Aycox of Edmond, Derrick & Darren Sparkman of Okmulgee. Larry loved spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren Tyler & Aycox wife Teondra of South Carolina. Tori Aycox of Edmond ,Jacob Sparkman& wife Courtney of Okmulgee, Emma, Kyle, Lora Sparkman of Henryetta and great grandkids Dakota Sparkman of Ohio. Reality Reed & Hendrix ( Shorty) Sparkman of Okmulgee , Hazel Aycox of South Carolina. Brothers Bob,wife Rita of Garland,Tx David, Arlington, Tx and sister Shirley Rogers, Azel Tx. Larry’s spare time he spent telling the many stories and jokes .He loved making anyone laugh. Larry enjoyed helping people. He lost his battle with cancer and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. There will be a visitation service at first Methodist church in the Rowe Center from 3-7 pm on Saturday April 29, 2023. Remembrance service May 19, 2023 at 10 am.
