Lila Kent Mitchell, longtime Cushing resident passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Cushing. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
Lila was born March 20, 1938, in Jonesville, Lee County, Virginia to proud parents Elmer and Zelma (Owens) Cutlip. She grew up in Thompson, Ohio graduation from Riverside High School with the Class of 1956. She was united in marriage to John Mitchell on April 2, 1970. They lived in Ohio until 1974 when they relocated to Oklahoma, eventually settling in Cushing in 1976. She loved to ride horses and was champion barrel racer. Many referred to her as an “Equine Goddess” showing and owning many horses throughout the years. She was active with the 4H group Roping Renegades and loved helping young children learn to ride.
She is preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Zelma Cutlip, her husband, John Mitchell; sister, Sandra Scranage; and granddaughter Shannon Mitchell.
Lila is survived by her children, Lionel Mitchell and wife Marie of Cushing, Tamara Lee and husband Rick of Stillwater, James Mitchell and wife Ericka of Berryhill; brother, John Cutlip and wife Sue of Nazareth, PA; grandchildren, Brandy Peterson, Amber Farrington and husband Shaun, Alec Mitchell, and Colby Mitchell; great grandchildren, Raylin Miller, Hannah Barrows, Saphira Miller, Ari Peterson, Shannon Peterson, Gracie Farrington, and one more on the way.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Cushing Christian Church, 302 S. Linwood Ave. Cushing, OK. Pastor Jim Forrest will officiate.
