Lloyd Slater, a lifelong resident of Cushing, Oklahoma, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 1, 1935, in Cushing, Lloyd spent his life dedicated to his family, community, and passions.
After graduating from high school, Lloyd began his career in the oil industry, working in the oil fields around Cushing. He later joined the City of Cushing Fire Department, where he served with dedication and rose to the rank of Fire Chief. Upon retiring from the fire department, Lloyd continued his service to the community as the head of the Parks Department until his retirement in 1985.
After retirement, Lloyd enjoyed going to Louisiana to fish and visit with his family. Lloyd was an avid woodworker who found great joy in his woodshop, crafting pieces that reflected his skill and creativity. Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Pam Roberts, husband Tim, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Vickie Slater and Kim Pope.
Lloyd will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his years of service to the Cushing community, and the craftsmanship of his woodworking. He will be deeply missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. There will be no services at this time.
