Mark was born to James Austin Sellers and Anna Juanita Nicholson, October 13th, 1951, and lived in Drumright for the first four years of his life. He then moved to Tucson, AZ, for seven years before relocating to Colorado Springs, CO, until his high school graduation from General Billy Mitchell. Choosing to attend Oklahoma State University, he moved back to Drumright with his father and stepmother, Rosie.
During the second semester of his sophomore year over spring break, he met Debbie Baker. Becoming a couple almost instantly, they married in August prior to their junior year. Working full time and going to class full time, Mark graduated in May of 1973 with a BS in Agriculture Economics. He then applied for work at McGuire Feed Yards in Slapout, OK, as the Office Manager. Preferring to be outside with the cattle, the owners allowed him to do so if his wife would work the office. As the cattle market nosedived in the fall of 1974, just as his daughter Autumn was born, his little family moved to Drumright where he knew he could always get a job.
Mark worked for A. B. Still learning open-and cased-hole logging and perforating skills, how to set bridge plugs, and perhaps one of the most valuable lessons: how to deal with a difficult personality. When Sarah was born in 1976, he left A.B.’s employ and owned his own steamer and treater business for a short time, following that endeavor with Sure Shot Perforators, Inc., which he operated with a partner and two investors. After the birth of Matthew in 1980, he offered half of his business to his brother, David, who accepted and moved his family to the Sellers family farm in Shamrock. That partnership lasted for six years at which time the David Sellers family returned to Oregon. Mark later dissolved Sure Shot in the early nineties and spent the remainder of his life in oil production and cattle ranching. For a short time he was also involved in the tool rental business with his best friend, Kent Linduff, and named it Sellin Oil. As his children reached college-age, he devoted a sector of his herd to AUSM Cattle, which provided funds for their further education. He was exceptionally proud that they all did, indeed, obtain college degrees, even if they were not from OSU.
A 51-year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Mark helped charter the Cushing-Drumright Lodge, #2712. He served as their second Exalted Ruler and currently held the Esquire position. He was the Oklahoma Elks Association President in 2010-2011. Grand Lodge also appointed him to a National Committee, Membership and Marketing. In addition, he had also been on the Board of the oldest active chapter of the API.
Mark developed many personal and business relationships throughout his lifetime, and taught his children to be hard-working, helpful, friendly, insightful, respectful, honest, and God-fearing. While he could be a fierce grizzly, he was ultimately a Teddy Bear. He possessed the heart of a servant.
He loved his family dearly. Married for over 54 years, he patiently attended Drumright High School softball, baseball, basketball, and football games, all sorts of 4-H events and FFA Broiler shows, plays and choral events, bass tournaments with Harold Cartledge, deer hunting on family ranch land, pheasant and quail hunting in Kansas with Dennis McPhail, Steve Dilley and Brent Hammock, playing golf with Rick Medlin, Doyle Roller, and John Godwin, Jr. in Elks tournaments, and then started all over again watching his grandchildren’s events. Mark and Debbie attended 36 years of Cowboy Football games and still hold season baseball tickets right behind the Cowboy dugout and third base. They really enjoyed family vacations, trips to Alaska and cruising in the Gulf.
