Olive Brookshire, 96, returned to her heavenly home on January 9, 2023. Olive was born in Cushing, OK on May 4, 1926, to Leslie and Clara Cotton (née Crites). She received her education in the Cushing school system and was a member of the CHS Class of 1943.
She wed her husband Melvin Brookshire on June 7, 1942, in Hermosa Beach, California. They lived in Long Beach, California, until Melvin’s enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They were married for 56 years before his death in 1998. In 1978, Olive retired from her career as a budget analyst for the Department of Defense.
Olive was a member of the Church of the Nazarene until her death. She served her Savior by volunteering for the Nazarene Church and took on many roles including singing in the choir, acting as church treasurer, and being a member of the church board for many years.
Olive is survived by her daughter Loreen Clyde of Cushing, OK; her sons Curtis Brookshire and his husband Dave Daniels of Silver Springs, Maryland; Marvin Brookshire and his wife Sandy of Akron, Ohio; and Rick Brookshire of Vinita, OK; her grandchildren Mark, Isabel, David, Jonathan, Melissa, Richelle, and Chelsea; her great-grandchildren Tristan, Isabella, Lydia, Liam, Elix, Mason, Declan, Indra, and Arleigh; She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four siblings, as well as her infant son Robert Wayne. The memorial service will be held at 2PM on the Saturday of January 14, 2023, at Kinetic Church, 116 E Maple St., Cushing, OK. Reverend Henry Reid will officiate the service.
