Patricia (“Pat”) Lee Johnston

Patricia (“Pat”) Lee Johnston was born in Cushing, Oklahoma on April 29, 1927 to Vesta Griffeth Johnston and Theodore Roosevelt Johnston. She had three older siblings-Edward, Floyd and Theodora.

Pat grew up on a farm and enjoyed playing outdoors with her siblings and cousins. She attended Harmony School where she excelled on the basketball court. Her family were faithful members of First Presbyterian Church.

After high school graduation, Pat attended the University of Oklahoma and became a lifelong Sooner fan. She joined Alpha Phi sorority and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

After graduation, Pat moved to Houston and began her elementary school teaching career, which lasted over forty years. In her free time, she played tennis and travelled. Always an avid outdoorsman, Pat and a friend canoed down every navigable river in Texas and many in other states as well. She also enjoyed singing in the choir at church.

After retiring from teaching, Pat moved back to Cushing to live on the family farm with her mother in Cushing. She became an avid gardener and enjoyed taking long walks down country roads. Attending Crossway Church in Cushing was always the highlight of the week, especially if she went to lunch with Sonny and Angie Johnston afterwards.

Pat eventually moved to Jasemine Estates in Edmond where she quickly became a favorite of the staff, other patients and their families.

Pat led a good life and will be missed by her nieces and nephews, friends and family.

Arrangements have been entrusted in the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Cushing. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Fairlawn Cemetery with Pastor Sonny Johnston officiating.
