Roberta June Smith was born on June 16, 1952 to Wm Edgar Morton and Eva Merle Harris Morton in Cushing, Oklahoma. She departed this life on December 8, 2022 in Tulsa, at the age of 70 years. Roberta was raised in Yale, attended Norfolk school and graduated from Yale High School. Roberta was the fourth of five sisters, her sisters are Betty, Ruby, Kathy and Sheila.
Roberta was united in marriage to Freddie Ray Tharp on July 31, 1972. They resided south of Yale and together they had four children, Jinnie, Wendie, Thomas and Jesse.
Roberta helped Freddie with his bulldozer business, she also helped with the farming and cattle operations. The family attended the Church of God in Yale, and Roberta helped with vacation bible school there and at Council Valley Advent Christian Church. She helped during church functions, including picnics and social gatherings. Roberta volunteered at the Yale Senior Citizen. She supported her children’s activities like 4-H, FFA, band and sports. She coached for the Little Dribblers organization. Roberta was an incredible gardener like her mother Eva and would bring fresh produce to the school for the staff. Roberta worked for Bennie Reed at the ceramic shop in Cushing and made gifts for friends, family and Yale athletes. She especially liked the Christmas season, making ornaments to give as gifts. Her marriage to Freddie ended in divorce. After many years together, Roberta married Marty Smith on December 13, 2005 in Drumright where they also resided. They enjoyed camping, fishing and spent most of their time at the lake hosting friends and family, including Marty’s grandchildren, Sharon and Michael Smith.
Roberta managed the Cushing Mazzio’s and enjoyed the social aspect of working there, getting to see friends and family as they dined.
Marty preceded her in death on October 17, 2014.
Roberta was a member of the Council Valley Advent Christian Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, ceramics, puzzles, gardening, coloring and crafts. Due to health reasons, she resided at Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee and was known to help with plants and flowers around the facility. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family during holiday’s and special occasions.
Roberta is survived by her children, Jinnie Potts and husband, Tony, of Stillwater, Wendie Oestmann and husband, Stephen, of Anderson, Indiana, Thomas Tharp and wife, Melinda, of Stillwater and Jessie Tharp and wife, Barbara, of Cushing; seven grandchildren, Marc Potts and wife, Randie, Katie Oestmann, Spencer Oestmann, Warren Oestmann, Molly Tharp, Macy Tharp and Aimee Tharp; three siblings, Ruby Rogers and husband, Phil, of Cushing, Kathy Spears and husband, Tim, of Pawnee and Sheila Romine and husband, Loyd, of Ripley; aunt Violet Harris of Cushing; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Roberta was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Bullard. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. in the Council Valley Advent Christian Church with Pastor Steve Tiger officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery.
Family will greet friends on Sunday, December 18, from 3:00 – 500 p.m. at the Matherly Davis Funeral Home.
