January 5, 1940 - July 31, 2021
Una Rose Kirby was born on January 5, 1940 in Sulfur, OK to Jewell E Young and Ammar T Kirby. She was the youngest of 11 children. Early in her childhood the family moved to Dimmitt, Texas where Una was raised and attended school.
Una met and married William Terry Maxwell at the age of 15. Together they traveled the world following the work, all the while raising their 4 daughters: Terrie Jo, Penny, Denice and Rhonda. Together they made a home for their family in Odessa, TX for many years after which moving to Oilton, OK and later to Cushing OK.
She was a worker. One that never sat still or relaxed if there was work to be done. She enjoyed working around the house, the yard, tending to animals, preparing meals, but most of all loved helping family.
Una taught her daughters and later her grandchildren what it meant to give of yourself. She was ready at the drop of a hat to put her plans or work aside if any of her loved ones needed her. She and Terry would be off on a job, hundreds of miles away, but if she got a call that she was needed, she never hesitated to hop in the car and drive many hours to be there for those she loved.
After the children were raised, they bought a home on Broadway in Cushing, OK. Then turned this home into a place of love, and laughter. This was the home the grandchildren will always remember. They created a magical world, the ultimate Grandparent”s house. Every holiday was decorated to the fullest and when the kids and grandkids entered, all their troubles were washed away by love.
Later Terry and Una partnered with Denice to open Crossroads RV Park. A dream they had always shared. They lived there together until Terry’s death October 14, 2013.
Una married Sidney Shaw on October 22, 2015. Together they shared their families, their love and their companionship. She and Sid traveled many miles visiting family over the past 5 years. They enjoyed attending First Baptist Church, riding 4 wheelers, and tending to their donkeys.
Una departed this life on July 31, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She will be dearly missed by many.
Una was proceeded in death by her husband Terry Maxwell, parents Jewell and Ammar Kirby, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Survivors include: Sidney Shaw of the home. Daughters: Terrie Venegas and husband Marc of Lubbock, TX, Penny Kennedy and husband Steve of Sapulpa, Denice Armstrong and husband Mark of Cushing, and Rhonda Hunt and husband Billy of Cushing, as well as Stepsons: Garland Shaw and wife Carolina of Houston, TX, and Wade Shaw and his wife Michal of Stillwater, OK. 14 Grandchildren and 17 Great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK. The family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Cushing, OK.
In lieu of fl owers the family asks donations be made in her name to Seasons Hospice.com.
