Virgil N. Sumpter passed away on March 16, 2021 in Amarillo, Texas. He was born in Oklahoma on June 11, 1934 to Robert and Alice Sumpter.
He was the loving husband of Ethel Stoveall Sumpter for the past 20 years.
Virgil retired from oil and gas companies and was a safety director of Maxas the last years of his employment.
Virgil loved golfi ng, playing bridge and spending time with his family.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lowell, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, fi ve brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter, Brandie Williams.
He is survived by his wife Ethel, of Amarillo; his sons Brian of Oklahoma City, Barry and his wife Illene of Victoria Australia; his daughter Brenda McGahey of Amarillo and three grandchildren Jamie Rodriquez and husband Sami, John Cox and wife Nicole and Tatiana Sumpter; one sister, Margaret of Oklahoma, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
