Navigating Cancel Culture

Body
The Fine Line Between Accountability and Censorship In the ever-evolving landscape of modern discourse, cancel culture has emerged as a powerful force, holding individuals and entities accountable for perceived wrongs. While its roots lie in a desire for justice and accountability, the fine line between holding someone responsible and outright censorship is becoming increasingly blurred.

Leap of Kindness Partnership

Body
We here at the Cushing Citizen have chosen to partner with the Drumright Area Chamber of Commerce on their Leap of Kindness Day project as a means to help those in need by serving as a secondary drop off location for new socks, hygiene products, and gently used shoes. We will collect these items from anyone willing to donate until Wednesday, Feb. 28 and will deliver all items to the chamber office to be distributed at Blessing Boxes in Drumright on Thursday, Feb. 29. In the event of an abundance of donations, remaining items will be taken to surrounding community non-profits to provide for even more people who are in need.

Drummond chimes in on border crises

Body
I had the honor of testifying recently before the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security about how the nation’s border crisis is imperiling public safety in Oklahoma. The Biden Administration’s failure to secure our border is a threat to public safety in our state and throughout the country.

Ditching Decorum: HB 3133

Body
I am not the picture of poise, the essence of elegance, nor am I anyone’s definition of distinguished – quite the contrary in fact. On more than one occasion I have been referred to as unladylike for being a known sinner with the mouth of a sailor. Although it could go without saying, let it be said that I have never been accused of being conventional. I have been stashed in the corner at dinner parties and kept away from polite company as the one who lacks etiquette, tact, and any sort of known decorum. The topics we are taught not to talk about – religion, politics, and money, tend to be my favorite to discuss. So, with that in mind let’s jump into a few of my favorite things minus the raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.

Going Straight to the Source

Body
As we continue into the new year, I want to remind my constituents of the upcoming deadline to register to vote in the March 5 presidential primary. The registration deadline is February 9.

Bring your pets inside

Body
Every single year Oklahoma gets a couple weeks of brutally cold weather. Every single year I see people leaving their pets outside during these cold snaps and it absolutely breaks my heart because more often than not, pets left out in freezing temperatures don’t live to see the end of those few short weeks.

Body
With the clock to session counting down, the State Capitol is bustling with legislators and staff busy preparing for the upcoming session. Our regular session starts Monday, February 5, but our deadline to file bills was Thursday, January 18.

New Tax Credit for Caregivers

Body
I want to make sure everybody is aware of a brand new tax credit Oklahoma launched on January 1 this year. Last session, the Legislature gave resounding approval of the Caring for Caregivers Act.

Be it enacted that…

Body
I had a thought recently that I would take a look at the bills proposed by the members of the 2024 Oklahoma Legislative Session. Bills that, if passed, would affect all of us who live, work or do business here in one way or another.
