Last Wednesday was a good day for 79-year-old Clifford Case — not just because he was spending it at Buffalo Rock Golf and Event Center playing golf with four of his closest friends, but because everything went right and he shot his age, a true 79.

Witnessing the spectacle was Dennis Graham, J. L. McGuire, Dennis Peck and John Hausner.

This was the third time Case shot his age at the Cushing Course. He did it when he was 74, and again when he was 76.

In 1980, Buffalo Rock was known as the Cushing Country Club. That was the year Case first picked up a golf club and he was hooked right away.

Case is a Cushing native who went to work for Cushing Lumber Company in 1969 and stayed there for 34 years before retiring in 2003.

“I didn’t get play much golf when I was working,” Case said. “The lumber yard bought me a set of irons when I retired. Now I play two to three times a week. I’m just glad I’m able to still do it.”
