The following arrests were made between December 26, 2022 and January 2, 2023. All individuals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

City Manager says increased investment needed

The Recreational Trail Grant awarded to the city was meant to fund improvements to the Memorial Park Walking Trail but according to City Manager Terry Brannon, an increased investment will be needed to see that project started in the near future.

Scholarships available for Payne County Seniors

The Payne County Home & Community Education, Inc. has announced the availability of two $1,000.00 scholarships for Payne County graduating seniors. The scholarship can be used for any post-high school training, including college, trade or technical school, nursing, etc.

Grass fire cause undetermined

Cushing Fire department members responded to a grass fire in the area of 750 Road and 3490 Road on the evening of Jan. 29. According to a report by Firefight Justin Ward, the fire was located at the Southwest corner of the intersection when members arrived on scene.

Perkins teen hospitalized after dirt bike crash

On Sunday, Feb. 5, a 17 year old boy from Perkins was driving a 2022 KTM dirt bike on private property near OK-51 and OK-108 according to a report by Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The boy was driving on a personal dirt track when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree.

The Feb. 14 ballot will see a list of five propositions for Payne County to be voted on — all of which are in relation to a 3/8th sales tax. Payne County Extension Director Nathan Anderson said in the past each of these propositions had been combined in one question.

Present at the ceremony were Martha Cackler, Nancy Dowell, Superintendent Melissa Amon, school board members Barrett Shupe, Brina Tate, Shawn Hubble, and Dena Floyd, Economic Development Director Bruce Johnson, Sally Wright and Chris Hubbard.

Cushing man dies in crash near Coyle

A Cushing man was pronounced dead at the scene of a motor vehicle collision that took place last week during intermittent icy weather. Harold Butler, 45, of Cushing passed from head and trunk internal injuries, according to an investigator for the medical examiners office.
