Large brush fire scorches hundreds of acres

No one was injured, nor was there any major property damage in a brush fi re that blackened more than 200 acres northeast of Cushing Sunday.

Cushing City Commission Candidate profiles

Seat three and four on the Cushing commission will be listed on the April 5 ballot. There are four places in Cushing you can vote — Cushing City Hall, Cushing Christian Church, Cushing Chamber of Commerce, and the Cushing/Drumright Elk’s Lodge. Registered voters can go to the polls between 7 a.m.

Last week to request absentee ballots for April 5 election

The deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, March 21st. Payne County Election Board Secretary, Dondee Klein,says absentee voting is available to all voters and can be submitted several ways.

Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit Highlighting Changing

The Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street, in cooperation with Oklahoma Humanities council, presents “Crossroads: Change in rural America.” The exhibition examining the evolving landscape of rural American opens at the Pawnee Bill Ranch March 26, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1p.m.

Scholarships Available

The Payne County Home & Community Education, Inc. has announced the availability of two $1,000.00 scholarships for Payne County graduating seniors. The scholarship can be used for any post-high school training, including college, trade or technical school, nursing, etc.
